WEMU is seeking an experienced news leader to host NPR’s Morning Edition and help shape the future of trusted, community-centered journalism in southeast Michigan. https://careers.emich.edu/jobs/radio-announcer-morning-host-news-director-ypsilanti-michigan-united-states Based in Ypsilanti — just six miles east of Ann Arbor and 30 miles west of Detroit — WEMU is an award-winning public radio station with a unique dual format of news and jazz, plus blues and roots music. We provide essential hyperlocal coverage to Washtenaw County and the surrounding communities. https://www.washtenaw.org/ Our audience is highly educated, civically engaged, and deeply connected to the region’s vibrant cultural scene.

WEMU partners with premier events and organizations including the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Michigan Jazz Festival, and the Detroit International Jazz Festival. This is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a newsroom with strong community trust and significant editorial freedom. Our team is small, collaborative, and ambitious, giving the successful candidate the ability to help shape newsroom structure, priorities, and growth. WEMU maintains strong relationships with elected officials, schools, local governments, nonprofits, and regional news partners to expand the depth and reach of our reporting. With no local daily newspaper or television news operation dedicated to the market, WEMU serves as a primary source for in-depth local journalism across the community. Southeast Michigan offers an exceptional quality of life, with easy access to urban, suburban, and rural living — all within commuting distance of Ypsilanti and Eastern Michigan University, WEMU’s licensee. Our team recently moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art broadcast facility on EMU’s beautiful campus. And wherever you are in Michigan, you’re never more than 100 miles from a Great Lake!
